Criteria for Inclusion on the Royal Oak Ware Memorial

The Royal Oak War Memorial includes the names of individuals from the Royal Oak area who remain missing in action or have died while in service to their country.

It is up to the friends and family of deceased military veterans to apply, at no cost, to have their loved ones' names placed on the memorial. It will be the applicant’s responsibility to verify the veteran's home address, when they entered the military, and when the person died while in the military. An applicant can provide newspaper articles or copies of formal notices from the military. In cases of early conflicts. such as the Civil War, the applicant will provide whatever is available. It will be the responsibility of the Veterans Events Committee to review applications and confirm the information to the best of their ability. 

 

1. Area of Conflict

Regardless of the cause, the casualty must have occurred in a war zone, or the death must be a direct result of wounds received in the area of conflict.

 

2. Residency

All the casualties raised in Royal Oak are eligible to be included on the memorial.

All those who lived (or worked) in Royal Oak for three or more years before entering military service are eligible to be included on the memorial.

All those who did not live in Royal Oak but attended a Royal Oak public or private school before entering into the service are eligible to be included on the memorial.

 

3. Additions

Requests from family, friends, or comrades-at-arms asking to have someone be included on the memorial must have supporting data. The Veterans Events Committee will review all applications. Successful applications will be recommended for approval by the Royal Oak City Commission.

 

You will need to attach copies of discharge papers, DD214, Purple Hear Award, newspaper clippings, photographs, and any other documentation you would like to be part of the Royal Oak War Memorial official records with this application.
