City of Royal Oak - Street Tree Request Form

Thanks for your interest in expanding Royal Oak's neighborhood tree canopy! If you would like to request a tree planted in front of your property, please complete this form.

PLEASE NOTE:

A 'street tree' is one that is planted in the public right-of-way (the area between the sidewalk and the street). All trees are 2-inch caliper (stem diameter) and approximately 8-10 feet tall.

We cannot tell you when the tree will be planted but can assure you that we will keep your request on file for future consideration

Each property will be inspected to ensure that the planting site is large enough to support the growth of a tree. To ensure a diverse and resilient tree canopy, city arborists will select the type of tree to be planted in front of your home.

Tree Planting Requirements

  • Trees should be spaced 25' apart from another tree.

  • If wires hang above the planting site, the arborist will need to select a smaller tree species to avoid entanglement.

  • Do not sign up for a new tree until the previous tree has been removed. If only the stump remains, then it is fine to request a new tree.

    • Stump removal will be expedited by JH Hart prior to tree planting.

    • Trees might not be planted in same spot a previous tree was located due to its left-over root system.

    • Trees planted and removed within one year are under warranty and will be replaced automatically.
